Macufe Festival 2019: Your guide to the Mangaung African Cultural Festival

The Annual Mangaung African Cultural Festival (Macufe) is an amazing project initiated by the Free State government and will commence in Bloemfontein from 4 to 13 October 2019.

The festive event, Macufe returns! The Mangaung Arts and Cultural Festival 2019 (generally known as the Macufe Festival) is set to score the feature of the best international, continental, national and Free State music artistes in Bloemfontein this year.

The ten-days festival is set to be a live performances cutting accross a range of hip hop, jazz, ‘divas’, gospel, and main festival concerts, with Kirk Whalum (US) and the ‘Nobody’s Supposed To Be Here’ singer, Deborah Cox who will be headlining this year’s festivities.

This year, Semito, Thandiswa Mazwai, Vusi Nova, Tshepo Tshola, Prince Kaybee, Jaziel Brothers, Allayen, Sjava, Mafikizolo featuring Encore, Sello Galane and Star Chalale will also take the stage at the Rose Garden in Bloemfontein from 4 to 13 October 2019.

According to its official website, the Mangaung Arts and Cultural Festival exists as both a showcase platform of the best talents from the metropolitan municipality Mangaung and around the world, as well as a vehicle of social cohesion. Now in its 22nd year, Macufe has cemented its reputation as one of the most prestigious government-owned arts and culture festivals in the world.

It is believed that Macufe attracts over 140 000 people from South Africa, Africa and the world every year.


Ticket details: Main Festival

Tickets for the main festival which is set to place on 12 October at the Rose garden are available at Shoprite, Compu-ticket, and Checkers stores nationwide while oline tickets can be bought over here. Ticket prices range from R350 per person.


Tshepe Hip Hop event:

As hip hop culture has grown to be a dominant force in South African music, so too has the Macufe Tshepe Hip Hop event. The event is set to take place on 4 October 2019 at Macufe Dome (Old Grey’s) and will feature O, Tellaman, Anatii, PH and many more. Tickets are R100 for this event.


Gospel:

Macufe Gospel 2019 line up. On 6 October the MAcufe Gospel event will take place at Old Grey’s, Bloemfontein. Tickets will cost you R170.


Comedy:

Macufe Comedy returns with the laughs with some of the biggest comedic talents in South Africa on 9 October. Tickets are R160 per person.


Indoor Jazz:

The incredible Kirk Whalum and Judith Sephuma will be joined by a sprawling, unique Orchestral Jazzathon on 10 October. Watch them in action for R200.


Divas:

Macufe Divas will represent the most soulful music talents on 11 October. Tickets are R290.
